Hiring: Canada Summer Jobs Research Assistant (Arts & Climate Action)

Inter Arts Matrix (IAM) is interdisciplinary arts organization and an incubator and producer of interdisciplinary projects in the Region of Waterloo and beyond. We are looking to hire a full-time Research Assistant (Arts and Climate Action), funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Position Title: Research Assistant (Arts & Climate Action)
Full-time: 35 hours/week
Hourly: $20.00

Contract term: Twelve weeks, anticipated start date of May 13th.

Eligibility: Youth must be between the ages of 15-30; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or with protected status; have a valid SIN number and be legally entitled to work in Canada

The intersection of the arts and climate change is a bourgeoning and urgent field of artistic research and practice. Inter Arts Matrix wants to support a passionate youth capable of conducting interdisciplinary sector research and working alongside the Artistic Associate and Artistic Director to develop strategies for our organization to adapt into our artistic programming and inform organizational practices. The research assistant will work to build a database of current arts initiatives, arts practitioners and networks (e.g., Scale/Le Saut) in Canada that are committed to climate action; this database will also include project grants, fellowships, residencies, and funding bodies that support artistic creation nationally and internationally.

As a part of this Canada Summer Jobs program, the selected youth will have the opportunity to develop their own interdisciplinary artistic project related to the topic, with the potential of applying for grants to continue working on the project after their summer contract ends. They will also have the chance to host an event on the theme of Arts & Climate Action at Inter Arts Matrix.

The selected candidate will be invited to participate in the cultural life of our organization. We seek to create meaningful work opportunities that allow for creative freedom and experimentation in order to support the long-term development of the next generation of cultural workers.

Please send a resume and cover letter outlining your experience and interest to artistic.director@interartsmatrix.ca by Friday, May 3rd, 2024. If you require any accommodations in the application process, please contact us so we can make those arrangements. We thank all candidates for their interest in this position.
